Formula Explanation
This calculator estimates your ideal body weight using the J.D. Robinson Formula (1983), a commonly used method. It's an estimation and doesn't account for individual factors like muscle mass, frame size, or age.
The formula works like this:
- It starts with a base weight for anyone who is 5 feet (152.4 cm) tall.
- For Males: Base weight is 52 kg
- For Females: Base weight is 49 kg
- It then adds extra weight for every inch (2.54 cm) of height above 5 feet.
- For Males: It adds 1.9 kg for each additional inch.
- For Females: It adds 1.7 kg for each additional inch.
Example (Male, 175 cm):
- 175 cm is approx. 68.9 inches.
- Inches over 5 feet (60 inches) = 68.9 - 60 = 8.9 inches.
- Ideal Weight = 52 kg (base) + (1.9 kg × 8.9 inches) = 52 + 16.91 = 68.9 kg.
The "Healthy Weight Range" shown in the result is a general guideline, calculated as +/- 10% of the ideal weight, as ideal weight is an estimate, not a single exact number.
